Wow. So, Descendents in Brisbane was interesting.
Opened with 'Descendents' and Milo's vocals sounded like a gopher caught in a lawnmower. Pretty sure 'I'm The One' was next, and Milo sung the first line or two before walking off stage and later re-emerging behind the drum kit, with Stephen Egerton finishing the song.
It was pretty clear Milo had no voice - he literally could not even address the crowd - and the next couple of songs 'I Wanna Be A Bear,' 'Coolidge' and a couple of others... Egerton (mainly) and Karl Alvarez (partly) sung with kids from the crowd.
Then a procession of 'guest' singers from the other bands from the festival basically just came on stage and did tunes - ie. Matt Skiba and Derek Grant from Alkaline Trio, Al Barr from Dropkick Murphys, Tom Crease from Frenzal Rhomb and the always irritating Fat Mike from NOFX.
So Descendents played for about 35 minutes of their almost hour-long allotment before limping off, with Milo gargling one or two indecipherable songs ('Coffee Mug,' 'I Like Food'). My friends and I started to leave because we assumed there'd be no encore and it was pissing down rain, but in the distance we saw them come back with Bill on guitar and Milo on bass (no idea who was on drums) and they did Black Flag's 'Nervous Breakdown' and 'Jealous Again.' Which was pretty interesting/weird/cool.
So I guess the moral of the story is... if you're going to see Descendents on a run of dates... make sure you catch them at the start.
$140. Torrential rain. Hearing the strains of bad metalcore over the top of bands I actually wanted to see. Brilliant.
Oh yeah... and a taxi driver refused me a short-distance fare, and then tried to run me over as I jumped out in front of him and took a photo of his licence plate ("hello Transport Ombudsman? I'd like to make a complaint"). But that was more funny than sad.

I would be really surprised if CIV didnt their own uk dates to be honest.. and seeing them at that venue would kind of suck. Descendents i could handle there.. civ, i cannot.
